I began Life Celebrations fifteen years ago when I realized how hard it is for people who have no connection to a faith community to find the right person to officiate a wedding, or preside at a memorial service, or create a ceremony to celebrate and honor any other time of transition in their life. Having been a college chaplain, a hospice chaplain and a pastor, I've been blessed to be able to support and assist many individuals and families through the big transitions of life, and though no longer serving a church, I want to continue to be an active resource for those who may want my services.
I've been especially delighted to receive a call or email from a couple I've married asking if I could do a christening for their baby.
And I've also presided at a memorial service for a man I married when he was killed in a motorcycle accident. Having used me for their wedding, they thought of me when this tragedy struck. It's a great gift to be able to serve people in times of joy and in times of crisis.
I love doing vow renewal ceremonies for couples who want to reaffirm their love and commitment. Sometimes they want to do this after having endured a time of struggle and challenge in their relationship. Hearing their story and giving voice to their victory over the difficulties they've faced is a joy for us all.
